Now that we’ve gone through spring ball, taken injuries and plugged holes within the rotation and lineup; this is my season predictions for the Braves.
My projected lineup:
Heyward - L
BJ - R
Freeman - L
CJoh - R
JUP - R
Gattis - R
Uggla - R
Simmons - R
Teheran - RHP
I think we’ll see a much improved year from Uggla first and foremost. I love what I’ve seen from him this spring training and hi s swing looks much better. I also like BJ’s chances to rebound to a certain extent. I think he’ll see a lot more fastballs in the 2-hole and his “new” swing will help to be able to take the ball inside and out with more authority. I do think the whole lineup has the opportunity to be pretty solid, starting with Jason and Freddie. I think they’ll be the two guys to truly show authority in the lineup with Justin being very solid and Chris somewhat regressing but being solid as well.
The rotation does scare me a bit. I like Teheran, Minor, Santana and Wood. I think it’s a solid 1-4 for any team, but I’m not sure what we will get out of any of them ecept Julio. Julio I have full faith in. I love his stuff and it seems he’s on the right train of thought. Santana should be good but I don’t know if we will get a guy with a 3.20 ERA or a guy with an ERA closer to 4.00. I think Minor will be very solid, but not quite what he was last year.
The biggest thing for this team is how Wood, Hale/Thomas (if they’re starters to begin the season), Floyd and Harang contribute. If the team can get through the first month or so with a good record (against an easy schedule), then I’m happy and confident. We can’t afford any big time struggles.
I have a decent amount of faith in Teheran, Minor, Santana, Wood and Floyd down the stretch. I like our chances with everyone being back.
In my opinion, the Bullpen will be fine. It may not be 2.46 ERA good, but it’ll be under 3.00 and I believe Carpenter-Avilan-Walden-Kimbrel will be one of the, if not the, best assortment of BP arms in the league. I pray Varvaro is good.
BUT, through this nonsense… but final prediction is…
The Braves go 93-69 and win the division by two games. The Nationals are good. If Fister can come back healthy (he had a setback yesterday), then they can win the division… but they have a lineup as streaky as ours, a bullpen that is good but not as solid and a bench that is still 1-2 bats away from being really good…
1. Heyward CF
2. J Upton RF
3. Freeman 1B
4. Gattis LF
5. McCann C
6. Uggla 2B
7. C Johnson 3B
8. Simmons SS
9. Teheran RHP (3.25)
Fredi made some changes today, starting with moving Jason up to the leadoff spot and Justin to the two-hole. I’ll be interested to see how this works out. I think Chris Johnson should be the two-hole hitter and Justin hit third, but I can’t nitpick, good job Fredi.
so send me replies now if we were talking! Or you can just send me questions!
Me and my friend Zac at Turner field last weekend! I had a random smile, but it’s a great picture!
